Indigenous Mental Health - Module 06 - Mabaig Part 03
 |
Mabaig agrees to take antidepressant medication as well as a small dose of an antipsychotic. In addition, Mabaig and Annie are given advice about cannabis and it’s likely contribution to the current deterioration of Mabaig’s mental state. A crisis plan is discussed with Annie in case Mabaig’s symptoms deteriorate and she fears for her safety and that of the children.
At a further review, there is a marked improvement in Mabaig’s mood and a reduction in both jealous and persecutory themes in his thoughts. He has also significantly reduced his consumption of cannabis with Annie and the children’s encouragement. Mabaig is able to cease the antipsychotic medication shortly after this review, but continues on the antidepressant medication for a few months more. When they have saved some money, the family are able to return to Badu Island to pay their respects to Annie’s family in respect to her deceased brother. |
